dc.descriptionThe article makes an attempt to analyze A. Potebni's views on the origins and historical devebpment of the adjective as a separate lexicogrammatical class of words, notes the scientist's thoughts on the oldest features and semantic abstractness of the adjective. Attentbn has been drawn to the categories of degrees of comparison as one of the morphological and derivatbnal categories. A. Potebnya pays attentbn to the semantic-grammatical aspect of creating the degrees of comparison, expressing a reasoned opinbn on the understanding of quality as a substance, which was first realized in the attributbn of the noun. Based on the facts of written monuments, the author of "From Notes on Russian Grammar" emphasizes the existence of an analogy between nouns and adjectives in the ability to create degrees of comparison. The article also draws attention to the research of other students (O. Espersen, V. Nimchuk, V. Pogorelov, J. Yanov) regarding the possibility of nouns to create degrees of comparison.uk_UA
